Changing lives: in the footsteps of York Minster’s medieval…

Going to meet Sam Turner who is a young stonemason at York Minster who has been helped by the HLF’s Changing Lives programme was a privilege. He was such a lovely young man..and so patient with us.

York, England Landmark -York Minster Tower Captured in the Evening.

There was a moment, though, when I was sitting on a stone plinth near the end of the day while Hamish was filming some extra shots when I just turned my head to look at a column next to me. It was exquisite! And for a moment, I thought of the stonemasons of centuries gone by, chipping away at the beautiful Minster to make it a work of art and a fitting tribute for their faith and their superstitions. It took my breath away.

Yorkshire’s back garden

Sometimes I think we have the best job in the world. We were doing a film for Heritage Lottery Fund about their Yorkshire’s Back Garden projects.

Wildlife Trust working with childrenWe took ourselves off to Greno Woods in Sheffield and watched enviously as children learned how to make fires, brushwood shelters and how to recognise bugs. I was dying to put on the warpaint and join in then we remembered we were the grown-ups!

For the second part of the film, we went to York Gate Garden and had a Zen moment. What a beautiful place!

A clear solution for farmers – Catchment Sensitive Farming…

We did a series of films for Natural England having a terrible time trundling round to beautiful areas of the country, talking to lovely, enthusiastic environmental people.

They were to encourage farmers to latch onto their Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF) programme which delivers practical solutions and targeted support to enable farmers and land managers to take voluntary action to reduce diffuse water pollution from agriculture to protect water bodies and the environment.

We did pigs, oysters, fields, machinery, beaches …you name it, we were there with our wellies on!….Have a look at: https://www.youtube.com/user/HarvestCreative2010 for a full film show…..
